It's a small habit parrot, shapes and elegant looking and slender, so that the word "elegant" is embedded in both the scientific name and in the town. The plumage coloration has as basis a nice olive green, with parts anterior-inferior bright yellow. In full sun the front and flying the budgie appears bright yellow. This bright yellow abdomen, under tail, chest and cheeks turns green-olive back.
The elegant parakeet is robust and can be kept in the aviary all year even if the aviary is not particularly protected; so just a sheltered corner from drafts and rain.
The male courts the female rising and spreading his wings in order to show the beautiful turquoise blue color and by issuing a note of appeal.
